COVID-19 UPDATE FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, SUSAN SEDENSKY
Each year, approximately 1,400 individuals and families regularly use our Emergency Food Pantry. When the coronavirus arrived in our region, we began to see an increase in new clients. Most never expected to find themselves in their current situation. With the closure of small businesses, employee layoffs and sickness hitting our community at an unprecedented rate, we are anticipating a greater need for our services, especially the distribution of food, in the upcoming months.
To protect our staff and community, our building remains closed. However, we are distributing curb-side food, diapers and pet food, four days each week. We can no longer accept food donations. Instead, we are requesting monetary donations to be used to purchase food and basic human needs items.
Our Caseworker is available remotely and our Senior Center Coordinator makes “friendly calls” to the seniors whom we miss. Each week we deliver food to housing complexes, the North Stonington Senior Center and veterans.
Our dedicated staff is on the front lines and committed to helping our community. Despite the uncertainty and challenges that we all face, hope springs eternal. Vegetables begin to shoot up in our community garden. Life begins anew. Together, we will become stronger.
If you would like to help us to continue our mission of "neighbor helping neighbor", hit the "Donate" button on this webpage or send a check to PNC, P.O. Box 1697, Pawcatuck, CT 06379. No amount is too small. We are in this together.
